Some Paths Just Take Longer
“It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters, in the end.” ― Ernest Hemingway
I have just reached the end of a journey I undertook decades ago; the publication of a novel. Long before I ever heard the term 'bucket list,' this accomplishment was at the top of mine.
Anyone who has achieved a life's goal can, I think, appreciate how it felt the day I held the proof copy of Drawn Back, and saw my name on the cover. It felt, well ... almost surreal, to be honest. There was a bit of Oh my God, I actually pulled this off. And then there was, Crap, what do I do now? Years had gone into the development of the characters, and the plot, and the book in my hand meant that the journey was at an end.
But what I'm beginning to believe is, for an author, there never really is an end to the journey.
In future posts I'll probably explore the writing process, and talk about the books--past and present--that have made an impact on me. But for now, I am on to the next leg of the writer's journey ... new characters, new stories.
